Acupuncture is an essential part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is one of the most commonly used medical procedures in traditional Chinese/Oriental medicine with a history over thousands of years, now getting popular in USA and other western countries. From its naturo-medical theory, acupuncture views diseases and health disorders as an imbalance in the body's energy, which flows along well-defined pathways called meridians. The intent of acupuncture therapy is to restore the balance and harmony in the body. It involves insertion and manipulation of extremely fine, sterile needles into specific points (acu-points) on the meridians relating to the organs, muscles and nerves of the human body's surface. Sometimes an electrical pulse is applied to the needles for increasing stimulation. Recent US NIH (National Institute of Health) scientific study has confirmed that acupuncture therapy regulates biochemical changes in the body, promotes health and alleviates pain and suffering. The World Health Organization has issued a recommended provisional list of 43 kinds of diseases amenable to acupuncture treatment in 1979. These diseases include acute and chronic pain conditions, respiratory ailments, premenstrual syndrome and other gynecological disorders, gastrointestinal disorders and many other health problems. At our center, acupuncture has been successfully used for following conditions, not only just for pain relief.
